Safety is always at the forefront of our minds in every project that we take on. At Above All Store Fronts, our team is trained to understand and identify the hazards that can happen during their work so that they can hopefully be avoided. One training method that our team uses often is “toolbox talks,” which is when our certified safety officers provide workers with safety instructional sessions to help prevent incidents from occurring.
Toolbox talks are informal group discussions and are meant to spark a conversation about effective ways to prevent hazards and protect employees from injuries on the job. Since no construction project is the same, a different topic and scenario is covered each week to uphold the safety of everyone involved in a particular project. Such topics may include:
- Preventing falls from roofs and extension ladders
- Preventing falls through holes in roofs and floors
- Preventing falls from equipment, such as forklifts
- Preventing electrocutions from power lines and boom cranes
- Preventing deaths from crushing or improper tool use
Regular toolbox talks can also…
- Help to foster a culture of safety by starting the work day with a safety refresher.
- Provide open communication for workers to raise concerns and ask questions about certain safety issues.
- Provide a cost-effective way for foremen and supervisors to reiterate OSHA regulations and heighten employee awareness of workplace hazards.
