Project Spotlight: Unique Fitness Farmingville

From Dated Exterior to Modern Landmark

The Unique Fitness building in Farmingville had been standing since the early 1980s. Its original stucco-and-stone façade had carried it through the decades, but by the time Above All Store Fronts stepped in, it was clear the exterior needed more than just a facelift. The work wrapped up in August 2023, marking a complete transformation of the structure

Starting with a Clean Slate

The first step was stripping away the old stucco and stone cladding. What was left behind was a CMU block shell that needed new life. Above All Store Fronts waterproofed the surface with a liquid-applied membrane, making sure the new system would perform reliably. Working with uneven split-face block presented challenges, but the crews adapted, installing Z-channels to create a stable base for the new façade.

Precision Fabrication and Installation

To ensure the new panels fit seamlessly, the building was digitally scanned by Castle Architectural Metals. Using those scans, Castle fabricated ACM panels tailored to the project. Once delivered, Above All’s field crews carefully installed them, balancing the precision of fabrication with the on-site realities of an older, uneven structure.

Brand Identity in Glass

A highlight of the finished design is the blue spandrel glass storefronts added on two sides of the building. Their trapezoidal layout reflects the signature look of the Unique Fitness brand. These storefronts not only bring in natural light but also add a sleek, recognizable element that ties the Farmingville location to the rest of the company’s identity.

Attention to Every Detail

The project wasn’t just about panels and glass. Outdated exit doors were replaced with fire-rated steel units. An awkward canopy over one stair exit was removed, solving both functional and visual problems. Drainage issues at the lower-level stairs were corrected to prevent recurring water damage. Even the unused concrete planters in front were reimagined—encased in white ACM panels, they now serve as clean, modern design features.

The existing curtainwall and sunscreens at the building’s entrance were also cleaned and restored, blending the old with the new in a way that feels intentional rather than mismatched.

A Lasting Upgrade

By the time the project was complete, what once looked like a tired, aging facility had been reshaped into a sharp, modern fitness hub. Above All Store Fronts didn’t just upgrade the building—they solved problems, extended its lifespan, and gave it a look that matches the energy inside. The Farmingville community now has a refreshed landmark that stands out for the right reasons.
